True Food app for iPhone and iPad
Did you know that up to 70% of packaged foods on our supermarket shelves contain genetically modified (GM) ingredients? Today, thousands of products on supermarket shelves are made with ingredients from genetically modified (also known as genetically engineered [GE]) crops. But GM foods are not labeled in the U.S., despite warnings from doctors and scientists that these foods may not be safe in the diet or the environment. So what’s an American consumer to do? Go behind the label and get the facts on genetically modified foods! The True Food Shoppers Guide gives you valuable information on common GM ingredients, brands to look for—and look out for—and common sense tips to keep you in the know and help you find and avoid GM ingredients wherever you shop.
The Center for Food Safety’s True Food Shoppers Guide was compiled because you have the right to know what’s in your food!
We compiled the Shoppers Guide primarily from direct communications with food producers. In some cases, we received company policy statements from consumers who passed these on to us. In addition to written statements, we spoke to many company representatives to clarify or assess their position. Products on the RED list contain ingredients that come from the most common GE crops (corn, soy, canola, cotton). Companies with products on this list have confirmed that their products may have or are likely to be made with GE ingredients, or have not denied using GE foods when given the opportunity to do so. Companies on the GREEN list have made a concerted effort to avoid GE ingredients and have company policies asserting their position on avoiding GE foods.

While the app contains a lot of brand information, we could not possibly include every brand in the country. If there is a certain brand you see at the supermarket, or purchase often, that is not included in the Guide, just send us an email from the app and we’ll include it in our next update! Please note that the Guide only includes a few organic brands as Certified Organic products are not allowed to be produced from gm crops.

Pros and cons of True Food app for iPhone and iPad
True Food app good for
For all the useless (though fun) apps there are on the market, here is one that everyone needs. Its one of the few tools we have as US consumers to protect ourselves from the not so hidden dangers of gm foods. I stand behind the makers of this app whole heartedly and will try my hardest to get the word out about it. It only takes a small percentage of people to stop buying before the food campaniles take notice so use this app, tell your friends about it, rate it five stars, and lets make that few percent change!
This is absolutely perfect and just what I wanted in a concise format. As a personal chef, I take my own health and that of my clients seriously. It all begins with what we put in and on our bodies. This app assists me in making powerful decisions for myself, with the latest info on GMOs, biotech companies activities, the governments action or lack of, connections to markets, csa farmstands, definitions, and more. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Love this app ever since I saw the movie Food Inc. Definatly a lot like this app!
So glad someone has made the effort to supply us, the consumers, with a way to eat more healthily.
This chemical attack through our food is why we are dumbed down to the point that we let our leaders rape and kill us and never fight back! Why us? Why the slow-kill weapons? Why so humane? A bomb would be better!
Im particularly impressed with all the information and ways this app allows you to retrieve updated information. This is not just a shopping guide, it is a way to be involved in what food you eat . I love the articles explaining GMOs and organic and that the
Lists provide company information so you easily contact an tell companies what you want! Sweet!
Some bad moments
Genetically modified crops are able to do some wonderful things for humanity. We must not reject this beautiful technology that can save lives and bring struggling 3rd world countries out of poverty and malnutrition. These GM crops are NOT harmful and NOT going to hurt you by consuming them. The amount of testing required by the FDA is so thorough that any allergies that one may worry about getting from a GM crop are very very unlikely. We have been genetically modifying crops for thousands of years by selectively breeding crops to allow them to benefit us more. GE is simple faster and more precise. I do AGREE that products should be labeled that they contain GM crops but consumers need to be aware that can save the environment from heavy pesticide use and decrease fuel use since farms dont have to fertilize/spray their fields as often. Educate yourself before forming an opinion please. And look at the whole picture before jumping to conclusions!
Not helpful when looking for specific brand names. Also outdated. Whole foods has confessed that there are gmos in a lot of their organic products. Organic DOES NOT mean GMO free
This app has outdated info. Even the "news" is ancient history. No credibility. Not what I am looking for, and I will delete it right now.
The fear of GMOs is contrary to the scientific consensus. Science tells us global warming is real, the earth is not 6,000 years old, and GMO are no more dangerous than the processes that farmers have used to invent tangelos (in 1911) and broccoli (in the 6th Century BC).
This app is misleading by giving the impression its claims have a factual basis.
So if GMOs are found ONLY in corn, cotton, alfalfa, rapeseed, soybeans, and a single cultivar of yellow squash, why do I need an app to tell me that Mt. Dew and Fritos are crappy for me. Seems a bit lazy.
Dont let anybody know!! The more people that know, the worse it will be for us. Us as in the people who are smart enough.
Keep the good food coming to us!!!!
